Dream Couple™: Daniella & Jason (Redlands, CA)

Dream Couple™: Daniella Gaddy & Jason Waitchies
Redlands, California

Tell us your Dream Couple™ Story (how you met, the engagement, etc. We want the full scoop).
Jason and I met at Blockbuster Video, where we both worked. He immediately caught my eye because he seemed so mysterious. At the time, he had long hair that was swept over his brown eyes, and had an amazing body. Since he was new to my store location, I tried being nice and talk to him. However, he seemed a little standoffish. He would never approach me to talk until one day I called him and we hit it off. It was during one of our conversations that I invited him out for drinks and we have been inseparable ever since.

Jason proposed to me after I returned from a three month internship from Washington DC. At the time, he lived an hour away from me in Los Angeles (I lived in Highland) so I drove over to his apartment to visit for the weekend. While we were getting ready for bed, he turned over and asked me to marry him. At first, I thought that he was joking because he had no ring, but the serious look in his eyes proved he was was not joking. Of course, I accepted and we later went ring shopping and made the marriage proposal real.

Tell us about the hardest thing you as a couple have had to face to date.
During the three years that we have been dating, we have been hit with, what I would consider major adversities. However, Jason has always been there with embracing arms to help me through all the problems that I have encountered. I think that one of the hardest challenges was nurturing our long distance relationship. We lived apart for nearly one year, only seeing each other on weekends for 3 hours or so. What also contributed to the stress was my internship in DC which separated us even further. During this period, we were feeling the strain of being in long distance relationship. We were constantly fighting. Even though we talked on the phone, the conversations were often strained. It was a very difficult time for us and for me in particular. However, our love and commitment to each other was so strong, we were determined to make it work.

Tell us about what you think is the key to a successful marriage.
The key to any successful relationship, including marriage, is open communication and compromise. One of the hardest challenges is expressing how you feel to your partner because of fear of how they may react. However, being open and sharing feelings helps relationships grow stronger. It is fatal to assume that your partner knows how you feel or what you are going through- so openness allows your partner to understand you. There is nothing more special than having a bond with your partner that is deep, knowing each others strengths and weaknesses makes the relationship strong and makes the bond stronger.

Tell us why you deserve to be the Southern California Dream Wedding Giveaway Dream Couple™.
I would like to be a Southern California Dream wedding winner because I feel that it will allow me to FINALLY do what I have been waiting for for 4 years, and that is to marry my best friend. Jason and I have been engaged for two years, with the original plan of getting married next October. However, due to financial hardships experienced by both us and my parents- we have had to postpone the wedding on two occasions. I have had bouts where I feel that my "dream wedding" may not happen. I believe by winning this contest, I will have the opportunity to live out my childhood fantasy of having an exquisite wedding to the man I truly love.
